Finally finally Riley was settled into the little yellow house that had just recently become Riley's new residence. The place wasn't huge but it was nice. It had two big bedrooms, a decent sized kitchen that would fit three people, a nice sized living/family room, and it had just enough room for a teenager and two toddlers to live in.
The two toddlers, her brothers Olly and Tony, were excited about moving. They thought it was so cool seeing the big men come and load up the truck. What the boys didn't know was the chaos and disorginization involved. Not only did they not know that but they got to sleep the whole drive from Indiana to Washington and Riley got to drive the whole way in their Dad's, well her's now, big black Dodge Ram pick up.
So Riley decided that she needed some fresh air and the boys needed to get worn down. This prompted the visit to the park. Riley didn't really know the place well but the nice old lady that insisted on being called Gran, who also nicely offered to watch the boys while she was at school. Gran told Riley about the park and Riley decided it was the place to go.
After loading the boys off the truck Riley set them on the grass and knelt down, on a dry spot not wanting to get mud on her graw skinny jeans. "Now boys," Riley said in her authority voice that made them listen, "Stay by the playground and do not, I repeat, do not go anywhere near the woods! Got it?" After a great deal of nodding from their curly blond heads Riley sent them off to have adventures on the playset.
Exhausted Riley pulled on her electric blue and orange patch jacket from the truck and settled down on a bench. "Finally," Riley sighed, relishing the comfort of sitting down.

Alec had heard the aproach of a truch long before it reached the little rainy town. He was curious to see who would be moving to this tiny rainy town, that was so small everyone new everyone. As the truck traveled threw the town Alec followed and climbed into a tree near the edge of the forest. All he had on was a white t-shirt and jeans. He hardly ever wore jackets he didn't see the point anymore since he had become a blood-thirsty vampire. Liquid gold eyes watched as whoever was in the truck stop and talk to a little old lady. Thanks to his advanced hearing he heard every word and headed for the park. He quickly climbed up a tree near the edge of the forest and watched as a young girl lifted two toddlers onto the grass.
That was strange you usually didn't see a young girl of what looked like the age of 17 with two toddlers. Surely they weren't her kids, she was too young to have kids. Alec guess brothers maybe but who knows. He heard her tell them to stay away from the forest. Man was that true, there was always the ones who couldn't control there thirst. Alec could be one of them at times depending on his mood. He hadn't had human blood for 50 years or so. He didn't plan to break the record at anytime.
He dropped down from the tree landing as quietly on his feet as he could which was absolutly silent to human ears. Alec smirked, not evily but at something deep inside his head a memory. A memory of his human years. Mud started to form around his shoes and he moved forward slightly. A slight breeze carried the scents of the small family toward him and his throat burned as he breathed them in. He could pick out each humans scents. Especially the girl's hers was the sweetest smelling of them all.
Alec ran away from the family just down the line of the forest, after he was a quarter mile or so away he came out from the forest, just out of the girl's eyesight. He just wanted to walk by her reaction. He loved to see a girl's reaction to a unknown-to-them-vampire. Good thing the sun wasn't out today or he would of had to stay hidden in the trees. At a human pace he walked toward the girl and her brothers. The dreary day made his already pale skin look even paler. He approached the family watching them in the corner of his eye, he slowed somewhat turning his head a few degrees to look at them.

The boys were having a good time. They were running around, going down the slides, kicking the dirt chips that layered the ground around the playset. Honestly Riley didn't understand the young boys facination with the playset, but she did remember the joy of it when she was younger. Those days seemed so long ago.
Olly was in the process of picking up a muddy pile of dirt chips, probably about to dump them on Tony's head. "Olly!" Riley yelled warningly and the boy immediately dropped the pile chips. A sheepish grin appeared on Olly's tiny one year old face. Riley noticed that his arms were covered in mud. Great Riley thought Now I'm going to have to give him a bath.
Too busy watching the boys to make sure they didn't kill each other, Riley didn't notice a rather pale and good looking guy walk up to her. It took her by surprise simply because she wasn't expecting someone coming up to her. People that didn't know her usually thought Tony and Olly were her kids and thought she was some stupid girl and tended to not want to be near her.
Now Tony was attempting to push Olly off of a step leading up to a little slide. "TONY!" Riley yelled this time at the other little boy that had her matching bright blue eyes, just like their mother had. Just as she yelled to Tony the guy was standing rather close to her. "Sorry," Riley said to the guy then looked over at Tony, "Play nice, both of you!" Riley knew that the guy must think she was crazy so she felt the need to explain, "Sorry, my brothers are a... well... they are boys. Oh, yeah, I'm Riley," Riley said forgetting to introduce herself, "Who are you?"

Alec couldn't help but smile his usual smirk-like smile. He loved watching little kids, it made him remember when he was little and liked playing in the mud. He didn't remember why he liked playing in the mud but he did and it was his form of entertainment as a young child, then it moved to books. He laughed to low for human ears to hear. He stopped and watched them, they were a different kind of family. They were her brothers not her sons. Even if Alec didn't think they were. But why in the world would she be taking care of her two brothers at such a young age, maybe her parents had died, or something. It was a mystery that puzzled Alec. His thoughts raced at the possiblities but he was distracted by her sweet scent that was even stronger up close.
The thirst clawed at his throat telling him to attack and kill. No, he had to resist the erge to kill, never would he kill again. He had killed to much and will kill no longer. That is the reason he switched to animal blood. He wasn't as gluton as he could of been and the monster that was his thirst was trying to persuade him to kill the girl and drink her blood. A few ways came to mind on how to get her alone but he tryed to push them away and work on replying to her.
Alec clenched his fists trying to control himself. His stone-hard body went ridged. "Its ok boys will be boys." Alec said threw half-clenched teeth. Why was it so hard to resist the wine? He could enjoy the bouquet but could he resist the wine? A few more ways of getting her alone came to thought, he thought of all the work it took him to get to the way he was today. He thought of books, quotes, music, anything to get his mind from his thirst. "I'm Alec, its not eveyday that you see a girl as young as you with two toddlers." He said still thinking it was odd. Alec held his breath in an attempt to control himself. He had never had a thirst like this before. Well it had happened before but never this bad.

The guy introduced himself as Alec, but Riley wasn't exactly paying him the utmost attention. The boys were still playing on the playset. Tony was occupying himself by sitting on top of a big mound of dirt chips that he just built and Olly was trying to topple it and his brother. Definitely they were going to need baths.
Riley was about to answer, nuts happens, but then she remembered that she couldn't use that kind of language infront of her brothers. The one time she said nuts infront of them they ran around the whole day screaming it in their little one year old lispy voices. Riley didn't get out of the house that day.
"Yeah..." Riley said distractedly to Alec. Just as she spoke Olly suceeded in toppling Tony over and it resulted in a burst of tears from Tony which caused his twin to burst into tears for making him cry. "d**n," Riley muttered and rushed over to the two crying children.
"Shhhh," Riley said and she picked up each boy in each arm, quite a feet if you consider picking up 30ish pounds in each arm for a girl that weighed barely two times that amount. "Its okay," Riley repeated as she walked back to the bench and set them down on it gently. "Shhhh," Riley soothed them and rubbed their backs and they both seemingly calmed down. "Okay?" Riley asked gently and the boys nodded and ran back to the playground.
"Sorry about that," Riley apologized again to Alec. She seemed to be apologizing a lot lately, mainly because she was so distracted by the two boys. "d**n it," Riley muttered as she looked down to see that her jacket had mudd on it from the dirty little boys that she just picked up. "They just can't seem to keep clean..." Riley spoke more to herself then Alec.

Alec didn't say anything to her at first he just watched. Riley had quite the motherly instinct in her, you didn't meet to many teenagers with that. Alec watched as she took care of the two twins. While she was occupied he took the few moments he had to try and regain his control. He took a quick breath of freash air and held his breath.
She was right though the twins couldn't stay clean it is almost impossible for young boys to stay clean at this age let alone twins, they were near the worst when it came to messes with mud. "Its quite alright, I love kids and understand. I used to have to help take care of my younger siblings too." When they were still alive he added in his head.
"So are you taking care of your brothers and going to school?" Alec asked again threw half-clenched teeth. Control yourself. Alec said to himself in his head. He didn't want to give himself away especially not in front of the two twins or Riley.

"Yeah I am," Riley said not so distracted this time. The boys were happily taking turns going down the little slide and were screaming with excitement. Knowing that the boys weren't attempting to kill each other Riley could relax better and actually socialize with the person in front of her. The person that looked a little strained actually. Riley wandered why. He said he liked kids so it couldn't be the boys... So was it her?
"The lady next door is going to watch them for me," Riley told him and smiled as she remembered the great promise that Gran had made her. Gran had said that she was friends with Riley's real grandma that used to live in the little yellow house and that she was happy to help in anyway possible. Honestly Gran was a blessing from God.
"Do you go to school here or what?" Riley asked interested. She didn't know anyone in the town besides Gran and was a little nervous for school to start. Riley would be starting her Junior year again seeing how she missed school last year. It made Riley nervous that she was starting later in the year and it made her even more nervous leaving the boys. "Do your parents live here too?" Riley questioned, thinking it was a normal question to ask.

Alec tryed to breath, to get used to her scent who knows it might be necessary one day. That and it would help if he would ever come acrossed someone else with a scent like hers. alec relaxed his mucsles and unclenched his teeth. He breathed threw his nose and just sent then burn in his throat to a maximum. His muscles went ridged again as if to spring. Calm Down! he told himself to low and fast for Riley's human ears.
"Yes, I do go to school at Forks High but I don't live with my parents. I moved out this year acctually. Lets just say we had a little disagreement." Lies all lies. Alec desperatly wanted to tell her the truth, he was good at secrets and hated to lie but he had to. Unless he wanted the Volturi to get involved. Then again it wouldn't be the first time, he caught wind of the story of a vampire falling in love with a human while he lived in Italy.
"What grade are you in? I am a Junior, he did look like he was supposed to be a senior but he had just moved into Forks at the beginning of the year and registered as a Junior so he was garentied a home for at least two years maybe more.

"Thats cool," Riley said smiling brightly. It was a good thing to know that there would be someone at the new school that she some what knew, a fimiliar face if you will. It was a slight comfort that slightly eased all the worry that accompanied it.
Currently Olly was hiding behind a slide while Tony wandered around the playset aimlessly. They were playing Hide and Go Seek. Of course Olly was hiding, Olly was good at hiding and Tony was horrible at seeking, it would be a long game and they would be worn out after, good thing for Riley. Now they would calmly sit through a bath and go to bed without a fuss, thank the lord.
"Well I'm supposed to be a Senior," Riley said with a tad of a sour tone in her voice, but she hurried to rid it, not liking it. "I'm going to be a Junior too," Riley told him. "Maybe we will have a class together," Riley added hopefully. That was all she could do, hope. Hope that school wouldn't be a disaster and that the twins wouldn't terrorize Gran.

"I just started school here this year." It was the partial truth he couldn't say he had failed a grade because that was impossible for Alec, he read all the time and could do homework in a second or so. Alec watched the twin boys in the corner of his eye as they played hide and seek. Even though he barely knew the small family he didn't want anything happening to them. Like he thought before some vampires couldn't control themselves but he doughted that they would go after the twin boys but still.
"Maybe we will, whats your schedual or haven't you gotten it yet?" His teeth were clenching down again. Stop that. He told himself. He inhailed slowly threw clenched teeth. It felt like there were knives running up and down his throat and the only way to stop it was to spring. No I can't do that. She is needed by her brothers. It would be wrong to take a life, and of all I've worked on. Alec would have to get used to it eventually, it was impossible to avoid people in such a small town.

"No not yet," Riley said to Alec, "I get it on Monday." Monday the day seriously couldn't come faster and Riley hated it. Of course it was part of the agreement that she would go to school, but Riley felt like her time would be better spent working as a waitress and taking care of the boys, not struggling through school while the boys spent time with Gran.
Riley was about to add something to what she had just said but then she caught the look on Alec's face. It looked like he was in pain or something, strained and all. Once again the suspision that it was about her krept into her mind, but she quickly pushed it out trying to rationalize. Its not like she had done anything... right?
"Um... Are you okay?" Riley asked concerned as Olly jumped out on Tony, tired of hiding and deciding to turn the game of hide and seek into a game of hit and run. Riley sighed as she looked at the boys get even dirtier and looked back up to Alec, trying to shake the nagging supsicions.

At her question Alec straightened up and rearranged his expressions. He would have to be more careful. Alec whipped the look of pain from his face replacing it with his usually smirky smile. "No." Alec said telling the truth this time, he wasn't going to tell her what was wrong. That would be just to odd, Alec imagined what her expression would be. Disguast, fright, disbelief. The emotions went on and on from there.
A cool Autumn breeze blew Alec's dirty blond hair. It sent her scent towards him again. He struggled to keep himself glued to one spot. He shifted his weight from his right leg to his left in an attempt to look relitively human. Then a thought came to mind. I could just simple ask her to meet me somewhere tonight then feed. No I can't do that, I swore to never kill another human again. But her scent is so......No! I CAN'T KILL AGAIN! Alec was fighting his thirst, fighting the monster that will always be there. Holding his breath Alec looked to her. His gaze flickered to the boys and then back to her. He had to control himself, thankfully his eyes never gave out any emotion.

He wasn't fine? Well was it really her or was it something completely normal... Maybe he was sick or something, but then why would he be at a park? Riley gave him a once over, nothing appeared to be wrong... maybe he was sad or something. That had to be it.
"Is there anything I can do?" Riley asked, feeling sorry that she couldn't help him. Riley was always a responsible person even though she seemed distracted and chaotic. "Are you not feeling well?" Riley asked. Maybe since he lived alone he didn't have any medicine, she had plenty at her house. "Because if your not I have plenty of stuff at my house and you can use some..." Riley stopped short. "Sorry I'm rambling," Riley apologized and watched as Tony tackled Olly into a pile of dirt chips, joy.

Even if Riley did want to help him there was only one cure for him. And Alec refused to use that cure, she would live out a human life and he would not disturb it. That he had already made up his mind, it was with all humans though he didn't want to interfer in there lives.
"I don't need any medicine." It wouldn't work anyway. He added in his head. "Thanks for the offer though. Make sure you keep it out of your brothers hands, though. And this is normal its just a sore throat." Well it could fall under that catagorie of a sore throat, it was burning after all. Alec kept his smirky smile apon his face determined not to give out the pain he was having. "Your not rambling, your just being concerned. Its that instinct that you have." Alec said, it fell under the motherly instinct but then again it wasn't that one either. Just concern.

"Hmmmm," Riley replied considering this. Right now Riley had the instinct that Alec talked about, but before everything.... Before everything happened Riley was a typical teenager without a care in the world. Those days seemed to belong to a stranger from another time, not the girl now that was caring for two toddlers.
"I guess you could say that now," Riley commented to Alec and gave him a vague smile that didn't reach her bright blue eyes that were watching as the boys, muddy and worn out, ran over to her. "LEEEE!" They yelled and jumped on her. After getting up from the impact of the two boys tackling into her Riley sat them upright and just as she did they looked over at Alec and said syncronized, "Woo youuu?"
