[OOC: this thread takes place in the Black's house on the La Push Reservation]
James had been upstairs in his room almost a full fifteen minutes before he heard the doorbell. With everything going on involving the "new sweet scents" around Forks and La Push, everyone in his pack had been extremely on edge. Especially the younger wolves; the wolves who had only just recently phased for the very first time and still didn't have complete control over their phasing powers. Luckily for James, he had been phasing for nearly two and a half years.
Jacob, his father, was busy at work in his garage--named Black and Sons--as Jacob hoped that James would join him one day. Of course, he hoped that his son would still continue to phase and be part of the pack, also. However whoever was at the door was certainly in no mood to wait as they had been ringing the doorbell several times repeatedly in a row.
Getting up from the bed and walking down the stairs, James headed towards the door. Opening the door hastily, he said without really bothering to look who it was, in a raspy voice: "Whaddya want?"

Mia rolled her eyes as her dad, Paul, finished up another one of his lectures. Blah blah blah, that was all she heard. She didn't understand why he bothered, it wasn't like she didn't have him wrapped around her finger. It had been like that since birth, if she cried once he would be there with a bottle, a diaper, and her pacifier. He was so protective.
Mia stood and adjusted her black jeans. "Mhm, okay dad. I'm going over to James'. Bye." She called over her shoulder as she slammed the front door closed. Her cousin, James, was like her best buddy. Okay, well not really, she just liked to get away from her dad. James' house was close so Mia jogged the whole four blocks.
She marched up to the door and rang the door bell several times in a row. "Taking forever" she murmured to herself, beginning to tap her blue converse covered feet.
Mia jumped slightly when her cousin yanked open the door. She narrowed her eyes and glared at him. "Nice to see you too, cuz." she scoffed then pushed her way past him and into the house. "So, where's my uncle?" Mia inquired, not that interested in the answer. She already knew he was in the garage, that was where he always was... except for at meals. Without waiting for an answer she ran upstairs and into James' room.
Mia plopped down on his bed and waited for him to catch up. Geeze for a werewolf he sure is slow. she thought impatiently. Finally, when James was in the room she sighed and threw her hands up. "I got problems."

"Mia." James said over sweetly to his cousin. He had half expected the Clearwater boys to have been behind the door or even Derek, needing to talk about some "vitally important" pack thing. But Mia practically lived here, too. James moved aside as Mia plowed her way through the door and asked where his father was, though she knew perfectly well he was at the garage.
Watching as Mia ran up the stairs and undoubtedly go into his room, James walked into the kitchen and grabbed a couple of sodas from the fridge and a new bag of chips. With Mia rushing up to his room, he had a hunch that they'd be here for a while.
Once in front of his room, he saw Mia sprawled out on his bed and he scoffed. "Make yourself at home why don't ya?" he joked as he handed her a soda. Sitting on the small wheeled office chair, he extended his feet onto the bed as he opened his soda and bag of chips as he listened to Mia. James rolled his eyes and scoffed as he heard Mia say she had a "problem". "Need to procure a hasty abortion?" James said lightly, quoting the line from the movie "Juno".

Mia quickly took the can of soda she was offered. She stopped mid drinking when she heard James talking. "Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny." She knew it was a quote from some movie James had seen, but she was in no mode to make jokes. Well for now anyway. Mia took a few gulps of her soda before blurting out her problems.
"Well you know how I always ditch school and go to Forks, right? So... my dad caught." Mia grimaced slightly as the memory came back to her. "At first it was a bunch of yelling 'Mia how could you ditch school blah blah blah. You're mother was so scared when she came to pick you up and you weren't there'" She spoke in a deep voice, for effect. She sighed heavily then laid back onto James' bed.
"He doesn't want me to go to Forks ever again. And, I know you're not one for advice... but what should I do? I like going to Forks, besides the 'activities' that have been going on there lately. It's fun to see all the little pale people, talk about how tan you are." Mia laughed somewhat hysterically. Then she quickly sat up. "Tell me what to do."

As Mia told James about her little adventure into Forks, James almost spat out his soda. Mia had always been rather rebellious, though she could get away with murder and she knew it, as she was the only girl on the Reservation. All the guys watched out for her and those who weren't in the pack and thought of her more as a sister fell at her footsteps, doing whatever she asked. He pitied her next boyfriend. If he would be like her father, Paul, than Mia would have it easy.
"Mia, why do you go to Forks, huh?" he asked rhetorically as he tried to remain calm as he rubbed his temples. "And you're dad had every right to yell at your skinny defiant butt ... the Cullens are back." he said flatly as he rested his head against the headrest on the chair. "We don't know why they're coming back here and it's best that you stay away from Forks. At least for now." James warned.
James hated giving out orders, especially to Mia who almost never listened to him, but he hoped that by revealing the name Cullens she would take notice. "Don't go blabbing that to everyone either. The only reason I know they're back is because I was on patrol with Tyler the other day." he revealed to his cousin.

Mia sighed as she finished up her soda. James was giving orders again. Why do you even try she thought. She set the empty can on the floor next to her cousin's bed. "Forks is fun! There's all those boys who think you like them. It's... it's funny." She laughed then ran a hand through her hair. "James, I know they're back. Not only them but there are other vampires in Forks. I've seen them."
Mia's eyes were filled with amazement. That's what the vampires did to her, they were interesting. "I talked to one." she admitted shyly, then pulled her feet up onto James' bed and stood. She held her hands out, her palms facing her cousin. "Now, James. Don't get TOO mad at me. I mean, that threat she made was empty." Her eyes grew wide. She had no idea why she was blabbing all these things.
Mia knew James would be mad and she wanted to get out of the line of fire. She lept from James' bed and ran downstairs. She was going to get as far away from James as possible. When she had left the room, she didn't bother to look back to see how her cousin reacted or even if he did. "Uncle Jacob!" she screamed, running outside to the garage. But no one answered back. "Shizz! You just had to leave, right when I needed you." she muttered angrily. Then gave up and sat on the floor of the garage. Awaiting James.

James' pulse suddenly paced faster and harder inside his body. She had gone to Forks and talked with one of those blood suckers! Mia had done some pretty stupid things in the past, but he had expected that Mia would stay away from the vampires. Her affiliation with the pack should have taught her that. Watching as Mia got up, James did the same thing; his eyes the size of golf balls.
However, when Mia mentioned her run-in with a vampire and the vampire's "empty threats", James became furious. It was one thing for the boys in the pack to make jokes and be threatening to Mia in a joking manner, after all they were all so close to her, but it was a completely different thing to threaten his cousin. Only James could do that.
Following Mia down to the living room and then into his father's garage, James finally caught up with her and began to pace back and forth in front of her, which would only signal to Mia just how furious he was. "Mia--I--you ..." he began, "What did the leech look like? Where's it staying? It didn't touch you did it?" he fumed, surprising even himself that he hadn't phased yet. "Tell me everything!" he roared, impatiently waiting for Mia to speak.

Mia's eyes followed as James paced back and forth. He was furious, she imagined telling her father and wondering if he would act like this. She groaned loudly then began the long tale of what happened when she talked to Alex. "Her name is Alex. I was in Forks at the high school, and all the boys were looking at her. So.... I walked over and talked to her. She found me completely annoying, I have no idea why though. Then... then."
Mia stood, she was fuming, the same reaction she had when Alex offended her. "Then, she said that she could kill the pack. That she had fought your kind before!" She spat through gritted teeth. She was now pacing along side her cousin. "I yelled at her then left, I couldn't and still can't believe that, that.... leech." She clenched and uncleaned her small fists.
Mia felt like punching a wall. "You can believe me, if I EVER go back into Forks it will be no where near that girl! Psh!" She threw her hand into the air and grunted. Yes, Mia actually grunted. She inhaled and exhaled a few times and calmed down a bit. Mia looked worried at the furious James. "Calm down cuz." She struggled to pull him to a stop and began massaging his shoulders. "Don't get too work up, I can tell you're close to phasing. Calm... down." She spoke soothingly and extra slow.

Hearing the story of this new leech named Alex, James paced back and forth even faster. He wanted to race down to Derek's and call an impromptu meeting. Now, along with the Cullens, they'd have to deal with Alex, who probably didn't follow the diet that the Cullen vampires did. He'd take the Cullens in Forks over Alex any day, and he'd never even met either group.
"She said what?!" James asked in disbelief when Mia said that Alex wanted to kill his pack. "She's fought us before?" he asked, running his hands through his short hair. "No, I'd remember ... maybe she means ..." he said, now off in his own world. "Maybe she meant Dad ..." he continued as he watched as Mia paced alongside him. It was a sight to behold, really. The big angry wolf-man and the Princess of La Push.
James suddenly felt Mia's hands on his shoulders and heard her soothing voice, trying to calm him down. He stopped pacing and exhaled slowly, feeling the tension and the anger leave him ever-so slightly. For all the crap that they gave to each other, they really were great friends. At the end of the day, she probably was the closest thing he had to a normal friendship, seeing as how she was the only human he knew.
James smiled briefly and looked at Mia and then into the garage to see if his father had returned. "Thanks Mia. But this means we'll have to have a meeting and you'll need to tell the fellas what happened." he said, returning back to his normal, serious self.

Mia shook her head as she continued to massage her cousin's shoulders. "No no, I think she meant that she has fought other werewolves. Don't you think you would have heard of her before?" To Mia James was more like a brother then a cousin, I mean she practically lived at his house. Plus, they did a lot together. No matter how much they acted annoyed or mad they were super close.
"I have to go a meeting with the pack?! Well, that won't be awkward." She said in a sarcastic tone. Mia released James' shoulders only to run them through her hair. She was nervous about being included in a meeting. Of course she had known all the boys since she was born but she was never one for get togethers.
Mia sighed nervously, then placed her hands in her pockets. "Do I have to tell my dad?" she inquired. "He knows about me going to Forks but not the vampire chit chat. And I don't want him to poop a brick." Mia giggled at her own joke. Then suddenly she heard a deep voice calling from inside the house. "Uncle Jacob!" she screeched, bolting inside and straight into the awaiting arms of her uncle. "I missed you! My father is being absolutely terrible!" He simply laughed in response and squeezed her tighter.

James scoffed and pretended to be annoyed about Mia's whining because she would have to attend a pack meeting. "Yeah, you do. The guys won't exactly be thrilled that they'll be a girl there either." he joked as he tried to dodge Mia's hands coming towards his hair. Though it was somewhat true. The last female wolf in La Push had been Leah, and that had been so long ago.
Just then he heard his father walk into view and Mia run towards her uncle, practically pummeling him. James was the only child, but he sometimes wondered if Jacob had ever wanted another child. Though Mia was practically Jacob's adopted daughter, so Jacob had the best of both worlds. "Hey Pop," James said as he walked over to his father, his hands in his pockets.
Silently he wondered whether or not he should tell his father about the new vampire and that the Cullens had returned. Mentioning the Cullens wasn't exactly preferred dinnertime conversation, especially after what had happened between Jacob and Bella. Stepping in before his father could reply to Mia, James said with a quirk of his eyebrows: "She went to Forks, again. But she's not going back there, right Mia Juliet?" he said to his cousin, using her middle name for dramatic effect.

Mia exchanged glances with her uncle, when James told him about her going to Forks. "No, definitely not." she assured both her cousin and uncle. She opened her mouth to speak but decided against it. "Hey Uncle Jacob can you make me something to eat?" she asked her voice full of indifference. She just wanted him to leave for a bit so she could talk to James.
Mia waited until her uncle nodded and walked off inside. "Are you going to tell him about then Cullens and Alex?" Her eyes were pleading. "Please don't tell him about Alex. I got it from dad and you. I really don't need it from him." Mia inclined her head toward the house. "Please?" She placed her hands on James' shoulders.

Glad for the distraction, James watched as his father walked into the house for Mia's 'snack', though he had a hunch that Mia wasn't really hungry. Then, as soon as his father was out of earshot, he watched as Mia asked him not to tell anyone about Alex and what she encountered. For this, he was glad that they were on the same page. He had no intention of telling anyone--except for the pack--about the news.
James looked into his cousin's eyes and put his hand on her shoulder. "No, I won't tell. In fact, no one should know, except the fellas. If my Dad found out Bella was back he'd flip and if Uncle Paul found out about what you know, he'd lock you up in your room forever." James said. "Actually, I think it's best for it to be a secret. We'll only tell the elders if things get out of hand." he said, putting on a brave face for Mia. If only he could believe what he had just told his cousin.

Mia sighed with relief and placed her hand on her heart. "I would like to see the sunlight." she muttered to herself. Just then her Uncle walked out of the house with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Mia thanked him with a hug and being taking bites out of her sandwich. She was actually kind of hungry, all this talking and running around was making her tired.
"Well, Uncle Jacob, we're gonna go inside. See ya later." She kissed her Uncle on the cheek then signaled for James to follow her. She marched upstairs to his room and laid out on his bed again. She was tired but she was fighting sleep. She'd much rather talk. "What will I do for fun now? La Push boys suck, no offense. But how can I date any of you?! You're all family!" Mia groaned angrily and buried her face into James' pillow.

James simply shrugged to his dad as Mia motioned for him to follow her. "See ya later, Pop." James said as he watched as his father walk towards his garage. He couldn't help but feel a little bit sorry for his dad. The love of his life had simply left him to pick up the pieces of his broken heart. Dear old Dad never spoke about the Cullens much, but when he did he made it clear that he'd rather be talking about anything but them. However, if he had ended up with Bella Swan than James wouldn't be here.
Following Mia he scoffed as Mia took up her position on his bed. "Move over." he said as he sat next to Mia, propping his back up against a pillow as his long legs rested on his chair. Listening to her talk about her "boy troubles" James was only too glad that he didn't have a sister. Even though they were only cousins, James was still incredibly protective over her. To say the least, none of the boys she had dated in the past had passed his standards.
"You'll find somebody, Mia. Who knows, your Prince Charming could be around the corner and you'd never know it." he said, though it was no secret that talking about Mia's love life wasn't exactly something he enjoyed.
